Reseach Grant Proposal

Our group is applying for this research grant to fund an interactive digital world project. We are creating a real time strategy game for Microsoft’s 2008 Imagine cup. The theme of this year’s competition is “Imagine a world where technology enables a sustainable environment”. Our team consists of Cody Wright of Kinetic Imaging, Matt Taylor of Communication Arts, and Francis Yaconiello and Chris Bradford from the Scxhhool of buisnass Information Systems department. In our game the player will be able to build resources using renewable energy sources, or use fossil fuels and other environmentally unfriendly methods, but see the consequences of these methods. By creating a game in an already established genre, our aim is too make a game that is fun to play and visually compelling while still having a prominent theme of environment conservation. This is a feat we have seen attempted before, but has never been successful. If our game wins this competition our game will be put on Xbox Live for gamers around the world to play for free, but even if it does not, we plan to complete the game and make it available for people to play regardless.
